Request reimbursement from your insurance with confidence.
It’s been hard to find in-network therapist you like.
You’ve finally found a therapist who is exactly what you’re looking for and they are out of network.
Now what?
How does insurance reimbursement work with an out of network therapist :
I believe using your insurance for therapy shouldn’t be confusing.
1. Look up your out of network benefits
Look at the coverage summary table provided by your employer, look up your coverage in your insurance portal online, or call the number on the back of your insurance card. What does it say in terms of Behavioral Health Care/Mental Health Care for outpatient services with an out-of-network provider?
2. Send your superbill and any other required form(s) to your insurance
Ask your out-of-network therapist for a superbill. This is a receipt listing the therapy services you received and paid for from them. It also lists all the necessary information your insurance needs to reimburse you. Mail, fax, or email the superbill to your insurance carrier along with any other forms they need from you.
3. Receive payment from your insurance for their portion of therapy fees
After receiving your superbill and reimbursement forms, your insurance carrier will process the request and apply it your out-of-network benefits. They will then pay you back, usually via check, for their portion of the therapy fees.
